Meet the Residents

Levi Harris, DO

Levi Harris DO

Originally from Springfield, Missouri, I lived in the eastern United States between Florida and Connecticut during graduate studies and medical school. I plan to complete a sports medicine fellowship to better prepare me to care for athletes and weekend warriors in my own practice following residency. My wife and I enjoy long distance running, cycling and swimming in our free time - when not with our two dogs or planning our next backpacking adventure.

Why I chose this program
In choosing a residency program I wanted to be exposed to full-scope, family medicine in an underserved setting. Bothwell's program with the University of Missouri offered access to a substrate rich for learning complex medicine in a rural community along with robust academic training. Through this experience I believe I can best practice evidence-based medicine in my future primary care clinic.

What I like about Sedalia
The Katy Trail running through Sedalia offers an abundance of space for runs on the weekend - occasionally with Dr. Frederickson if I get up early enough. The Heckert Community Center has an awesome lap pool in addition to a full schedule of classes and group events. Visiting the European market and one of the many coffee shops are often on our to-do list for the week.

Brittany Pendergraft, MD

Brittany Pendergraft, MDI grew up in southwest Missouri and embraced the small-town, rural lifestyle. I have five brothers so our main pastimes included kayaking, swimming, fishing and deer hunting, as well as exploring lakes, creeks and the woods. I received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from University of Arkansas and attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience for my graduate studies. Then, I relocated to Columbia to work toward my medical degree at University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine.

Why I chose this program
The residency program at Bothwell offered a learning experience at a teaching hospital, as well as the opportunity to practice medicine at a rural hospital. I grew up in a small town and always knew I wanted to return to a similar setting. The top resources you see provided at larger health care centers are not always available in a smaller setting. At Bothwell, I can learn how to think quickly on my feet and provide the most cost-effective care for patients.

What I like about Sedalia
I love the small-town feel that Sedalia offers. There are plenty of amenities in town, but not a far drive to the country. Sedalia’s community has been so friendly and welcoming since arriving here.

ShiAnne Farris, DO

ShiAnne Farris, DOMy passion for health care originated in my small town of Alva, Oklahoma, where I started working at our only hospital at the age of 16. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and in 2019, I returned to school to earn a medical degree from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa. My husband, Sean, and I have two children, Serina and Stetson.

Why I chose this program
After working as a nurse for 10 years, I decided to become a doctor because I’ve seen how hard it is to get physicians to small communities. This program combines the vast pathology and patient volume at a tertiary care center through our intern year at MU. Then through the remainder of my training at Bothwell, I learn how to manage many of the same pathologies with a different availability of resources. Rural medicine also teaches me how to practice true full scope family medicine, whether it’s seeing someone in the emergency room, delivering babies, in the hospital or in a clinic for follow-up and primary care.

What I like about Sedalia
I love the small town feel of Sedalia while also having many of the resources, activities, and options of a larger city. There is always something going on! If not in Sedalia then in one of the small towns in the nearby area. However, mostly I love the people, both within the residency and the community! I’ve been welcomed in like I’ve always been around and people care about my life, my family and what I need to make the most of my education and future career.

Logan Stiens, MD

Logan Stiens, MDThough I was born in Columbia, Missouri, my family and I moved to Iowa at a young age. For college, I attended Iowa State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a master’s degree in Biomedical Science. I completed medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. In my free time, I enjoy bicycling, outdoor grilling, working with wood, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones.

Why I chose this program
Coming from a rural area, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for helping those in rural communities get access to the medical care they need. Bothwell allows me to help people in Sedalia while also being close to my hometown of Columbia, and Kansas City, where some of my extended family live.

What I like about Sedalia
My favorite thing about Sedalia has been the amazing people I’ve met so far in the clinic and in the community. Outside of the clinic, I enjoyed visiting the Daum Museum on the State Fair Community College campus and visiting the many different restaurants with diverse cuisines for Sedalia’s size.

Gabriel Dudley, DO

Gabriel Dudley, DOGrowing up in the small town of Jackson, Missouri, I knew I wanted to settle down in my home state someday. I attended Southeast Missouri State and received a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science. My high school sweetheart and I married before moving to Florida where I completed my master’s degree program in Biomedical Ethics and medical school both at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. When I’m not practicing medicine, I love to hunt, cook meals for large groups and ride my unicycle. I’ve always loved a challenge, and unicycling certainly challenges my athleticism. My wife and I have two children, Adaley and Cale and two dogs, Barley and Charlie.

Why I chose this program
Choosing Bothwell for my residency program was an easy decision, especially after speaking with the other residents in the program. When I was seeking out residency programs, it was important to me to receive individualized training with opportunities for procedures and one-on-one training. The family medicine program in Sedalia is unopposed and everyone here instantly made me feel valued and appreciated.

What I like about Sedalia
I love the hometown feel of Sedalia and it reminds me much of where I grew up in Jackson, Missouri. My family and I take full advantage of the parks and recreational activities that the city offers.

Jamie Spears, MD

Jamie Spears, MDI grew up in rural southeast Kansas and was practically raised in my father’s medical clinic. My passion for family medicine and building relationships with patients grew as I continued my education. I attended Kansas State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Life Science and pursued my medical degree at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Sint Maarten. My fiancé and high school sweetheart and I have three dogs, two Australian Shepherds and a chihuahua. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, spending time on trails with the dogs, and putting together puzzles or LEGO sets. Oh, and people often mistake me for Britney Spears’ sister, though we have no relation, sadly.

Why I chose this program
From the get go, it was easy to see the heart that had been put into this program and how much the residents meant to everyone. I chose Bothwell because of the faculty here and the family-based atmosphere. Sedalia’s close-knit community and supportive environment was exactly what I was looking for, and it immediately felt like home.

What I like about Sedalia
I really enjoy Sedalia's friendly, close-knit community. The town has a welcoming feel and plenty of local events that make it easy to connect with others. The relaxed atmosphere and small-town charm make it an ideal place for my family medicine residency.
