Experienced nurse practitioner joins Bothwell Eldenburg Family Practice
Peggy Van Dyke, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, has joined Bothwell Eldenburg Family Practice. She will provide care for women’s health patients on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
As a nurse practitioner, Van Dyke will perform wellness checks, provide family planning and sexual health education, menopause counseling and hormone therapy, osteoporosis screening and treatment, diet counseling and preventive care services for women of all ages, including teenagers.
Van Dyke has been a nurse practitioner specializing in women’s health and working with Dr. Elmer Van Dyke at Women’s Health & Surgical Center since 2007. Following Dr. Van Dyke’s retirement in December, Van Dyke said she is excited to join the Bothwell team and looks forward to being part of an organization that works hard to achieve excellence in patient care.
“I truly care about helping others and nursing offers me the unique opportunity to work with patients and the public to make choices that will impact their health and well-being,” she said. “I am a strong patient advocate and focus on providing quality patient care that is specific to the needs of each patient. I also value family involvement and allowing patients to participate in plans of care.”
Van Dyke received a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from University of Alabama in Birmingham, a master’s degree in Nursing from University of Missouri – Columbia and a post master’s certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner from Graceland University in Independence, Missouri. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville and began her nursing education at State Fair Community College where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1976.
In addition to patient care, Van Dyke educates current nursing students at Missouri Valley College in Marshall where she serves as a professor and the Dean of the School of Nursing & Health Sciences.
Marvin Smoot, Bothwell’s Clinic Operations vice president, said Van Dyke is well known in the community and values high-quality patient care for the women she treats.
“Peggy’s experience and reputation in the field of nursing and nursing education speaks for itself in terms of her skills and knowledge about patient care,” he said. “We are thrilled to welcome her and her current patients to our clinic setting a couple days a week and look forward to her seeing new women’s health patients, as well.”
Van Dyke said she builds trust with her patients by understanding everyone is unique and recognizing the importance of building relationships, listening and being truthful, showing empathy and being sensitive to their concerns.
“My patients are my priority,” she said. “Although this is a physical move for me to a new clinic, the quality and access to care will not change. I am excited about welcoming new patients and working in collaboration with Dr. Eldenburg as we strive for excellence in women’s health care. It’s my goal to be an effective team member and work collaboratively with all providers and those in the health care space.”
