Experienced nurse practitioner joins Bothwell Cole Camp Clinic
Kayla Mather, a Family Nurse Practitioner, has joined Bothwell Cole Camp Clinic and will care for patients of all ages.
As a nurse practitioner, Mather will see patients, evaluate and treat illnesses and injuries, perform procedures, order and interpret labs and tests and prescribe medications.
Mather began her nursing career five years ago at Bothwell in the Medical Surgical Unit where she cared for patients with diverse health conditions. She transitioned to home health care and earned a certificate of Holistic Nursing before ultimately pursuing her Family Nurse Practitioner degree.
“I pursued nursing because I wanted to make a difference in peoples’ lives and always found the science and anatomy aspects so interesting,” she said. “I ultimately decided to become a nurse practitioner because I wanted to do more for my patients and help them better understand and use all their health care resources.”
Mather believes in empowering patients to make good health choices for themselves and has the education and experience to provide helpful resources for them to do so.
“My philosophy of care is simple,” she said. “It is not my job to fix or heal a patient. It is my job to educate and provide resources and options for patients to choose healing for themselves. They are in charge of their own health, and I want to be with them every step of the way, helping them understand their options, the consequences of their health care decisions and the resources available to them. I plan to build strong relationships with my patients by being honest, respectful and honoring their autonomy to make decisions about their health.”
Marvin Smoot, Bothwell’s Clinic Operations vice president, said welcoming Mather back to the Bothwell team in a practitioner role will make a valuable impact on care in the Cole Camp area.
“Kayla knows the values of Bothwell and the importance of providing exceptional health care in rural communities,” he said. “She has diverse experiences in managing outpatient resources and care, and spent time at the Cole Camp location during her clinical training education, so we know she will continue to build upon those patient-provider relationships.”
Mather joins Dr. Misty Todd and Nurse Practitioner Pamela Eckhoff at the clinic.
