Bothwell welcomes new board member
The Bothwell Regional Health Center Board of Trustees has welcomed Cassie Brown as a new member after the Sedalia City Council approved her appointment at its meeting on May 6. She is replacing member Dr. Paul Bassett, whose term expires in June 2025.
Brown is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers – Missouri Chapter in Jefferson City. Prior to that she was a therapist at Compass Health in Sedalia and worked in health care and education in Kentucky.
Mayor Andrew Dawson said he appointed Brown because of her community involvement and background in health care.
“I appointed Trustee Brown to Bothwell’s Board of Trustees due to her exceptional leadership as Chairperson of the Transitional Services Committee for the City of Sedalia and her deep understanding of the intricacies of government and health care systems,” he said. “Her appointment is a strategic step toward ensuring that our community hospital remains a robust, independent entity serving our community’s needs.”
Brown has served on several boards and committees including the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), NASW Employee Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, Kentucky Society for Clinical Social Work, Eastern State Hospital (Kentucky) Research Council and Eastern State Hospital Healthcare Inclusivity Committee.
“As a licensed social worker, I am passionate about underserved populations, rural health care and providing the best possible care close to home for area residents,” Brown said. “From previous roles, I have experience working with policy and procedures, health care equity initiatives, research councils, supervision of social workers and social work students and other initiatives and projects. As a board member, I want to advocate for Bothwell’s social workers, explore partnerships to expand behavioral health initiatives and improve patient satisfaction.”
Dawson said Brown will be able to seamlessly step into her board role and have an impact.
“Trustee Brown’s background in social work and role as Executive Director of the Missouri Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers equip her with unique insights into how social determinants impact health care outcomes,” he said. “I am confident she will bring her expert knowledge and experience to enhance the board’s effectiveness and believe she will excel in her role and contribute significantly to our ongoing efforts in health care excellence.”
The Bothwell Board of Trustees meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm in the hospital board room. Members are appointed by the Mayor and reviewed and approved by City Council.
