Gabriel Anders, DO, receives critical care board certification
Dr. Gabriel Anders, a physician at Bothwell Regional Health Center, has achieved critical care board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
ABIM is an independent, physician-led, nonprofit organization. Board certification from ABIM is the highest standard in internal medicine and its subspecialties and signifies that physicians have demonstrated to their peers and to the public that they have the clinical judgment, skills and attitudes essential for providing excellent patient care.
Marvin Smoot, Bothwell’s Clinic Operations vice president, said certification in the critical care subspeciality means Anders is trained to care for critically ill individuals in the hospital, primarily in the Intensive Care Unit.
“In the hospital, Dr. Anders cares for our sickest patients,” he said. “He is an intelligent and thorough physician, and we’re proud of his hard work to achieve this certification that will help him diagnose and treat patients with a broad range of conditions.”
Anders received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from A.T. Still University in Kirksville in May 2014 and completed three years of internal medicine residency at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Following residency rotations for intensive care, pulmonary and sleep medicine, Anders pursued a fellowship in sleep medicine for one year at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by a three-year fellowship in pulmonary/critical care medicine at University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Smoot said Anders also has ABIM certifications in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases and sleep medicine.
“Dr. Anders is committed to providing the best care to the patients he cares for,” he said. “Staying current in medical knowledge is critical, and he is dedicated to achieving and maintaining these certifications by learning and assessing his skills.”
Anders joined the Bothwell medical team in July 2021 and cares for patients at Bothwell Internal Medicine Specialists and Bothwell Pulmonary Specialists. The clinics provide treatment for respiratory system and pulmonary disorders, including COPD, asthma and emphysema, kidney conditions and help patients manage complex diseases. Other providers include Dr. William Woolery, Dr. Dan Woolery, Dr. Blake Brooks and Nurse Practitioners Rene Boland, Leah Hermanson and Shawna Sapaugh.
