Bothwell Regional Health Center to offer community Stop the Bleed class

Bothwell Regional Health Center will offer a Stop the Bleed class open to the community on Friday, July 28.

The free class is from 8 a.m. to noon and will train participants to be equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. According to the American College of Surgeons, uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death after injury. On average, it takes medical first responders five to seven minutes to arrive on a scene, yet it only takes three to five minutes for a victim to bleed out.

“We live in a busy, mobile world,” said Shari Riley, RN, Bothwell Regional Health Center’s Time Critical Diagnosis coordinator. “Household injuries and motor vehicle accidents are common. Boating, recreational vehicle use and hunting are part of our area’s culture. Accidents happen and sometimes we are far away from help. The public needs to be educated and be able to react and intervene until trained medical help arrives.”

The class will meet in the Bothwell Education Center at 600 E. 14th Street in classrooms two and three.
