Encouraging stress coping skills for youth seminar March 20
The Bothwell Foundation will host its second free community seminar at noon March 20 at Bothwell Health Center-Truman Lake in Warsaw.
The seminar is a presentation for parents and leaders of youth about how to model and support stress management for healthy living. Speakers include Dr. Robynne Lute, Bothwell behavioral health consultant, Family Nurse Practitioner Chelsea Casteel at Bothwell Truman Lake and Nurse Practitioner Sarah Price with Bothwell TLC Pediatrics.
The speakers will share tips for parents, caregivers, educators and others who regularly interact with young people. Topics will include how to talk to, listen, reassure and encourage them; signs and symptoms of distress; best practices for sleep, nutrition, exercise and emotional connection; avoiding drugs and alcohol; and recognizing when more help is needed and where to find it. They will also talk about the role of Behavioral Health Consultants at Bothwell and how they work with providers at several clinics, including the Warsaw clinic, to provide same-day appointments for patients needing behavioral health services.
The seminar is being organized by the foundation’s Community Relations committee. Their goal is to create awareness of Bothwell services in the communities the health center serves and provide educational opportunities that share resources and support to people about health challenges they or their families are facing. Cliff Callis, committee chair, said this is the second free seminar put on by the committee.
“We offered this same seminar in Sedalia last November and it was well received by those who attended,” he said. “Bothwell has experts who can speak about most any health topic from A to Z, and we have communities that Bothwell serves that want more information about how to physically and emotionally care for themselves and their loved ones in a healthy way. Our committee’s job is to help make our community aware of the outstanding health services and care that Bothwell provides.”
Seating is limited, and people who are interested in attending the free seminar should register by March 15 by contacting Lauren Thiel-Payne, Bothwell Foundation executive director, at lthiel@brhc.org or 660-829-7786. Bothwell Health Center-Truman Lake is located at 1765 Commercial Street in Warsaw, and a complimentary lunch will be provided.
The Community Relations committee is planning future seminars about heart health and navigating Medicare in Warsaw and Sedalia later this year. The committee is also organizing tours of Bothwell Hospital and Bothwell Health Center-Truman Lake for area clubs and organizations. Those interested in tours should contact Thiel-Payne.
