Bothwell Foundation Presents Donation to Jim Spring Memorial Golf Tournament
Benton County residents will have access to additional automated external defibrillators (AEDs) thanks to the Jim Spring Memorial Golf Tournament. As part of the tournament held in early May, the Bothwell Foundation donated $2,000 to help fund additional AEDs to benefit the community.
According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year. The use of an AED on an individual in cardiac arrest increases their survival rate by 60 percent. With that in mind, the Bothwell Foundation works to place this life-saving equipment in local communities.
“The funding of AEDs allows us to help those outside the walls of our hospitals and clinics,” said Bothwell Foundation Board President Stafford Swearingen. “We are honored to be able to work with the Jim Spring Memorial Golf Tournament and the Benton County Health Department to provide this donation to help make a positive impact in our communities.”
The Bothwell Foundation’s Camye Callis Gaspard Memorial Heart Fund was established in 2005 to provide funds to purchase cardiac equipment to Bothwell Regional Health Center and to the communities it serves. Through donations and the Bothwell Foundation’s Lub Dub 5K/10K Run/Walk, some of the items the foundation has been able to provide include AEDs throughout Pettis and Benton counties, a cardiac monitoring system at Bothwell Regional Health Center, and equipment for cardiac rehab patients.
