Detect. Diagnose. Defeat.
Bothwell is pleased to be one of the first out-state hospitals in Missouri to offer 3D mammography, which provides clearer, more detailed images of breast tissue than traditional 2D mammography. 3D mammography produces dozens of “slices” or images per breast, compared to the typical two images per breast in 2D mammography. This allows doctors to see masses and distortions associated with cancers and precancerous cells more clearly than conventional 2D mammography. Fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below. Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. Our 3D mammography detects 41 percent more invasive breast cancers and offers better diagnosis with 40 percent fewer false positives. Not all 3D mammography equipment is the same. Bothwell's Genius 3D mammography provides both vertical and horizontal scans of the breast tissue.
Exam Process the Same
A Genius 3D mammography exam is similar to having a traditional 2D mammogram. The technologist will position each breast, compress it and take images from different angles. No additional compression is required, and it only takes a few seconds longer for each view. The technologist will review the images at the computer workstation to ensure quality images have been captured. A radiologist will then examine the images and report results to either you or your physician.
3D mammography is approved for all women who would be undergoing a standard mammogram. Multiple clinical studies show that all women, regardless of breast type or density, benefit from 3D mammography. Special allowances may need to be made with women who have breast implants or extremely large breasts.
If your Insurance Company considers 3D to be “experimental” and it is not a covered charge, Bothwell will courtesy adjust the charge and NOT pass any expense on to you. The professional fee charged by the radiologists for reading the exam may still be owed by you. If your insurance company considers 3D to be a covered benefit, there may be a co-insurance and/or deductible due, and you will be responsible for this. The same applies to the professional fee charged by the radiologist.
Ask your physician to schedule your 3D mammogram at Bothwell Diagnostic Center or call (660) 827-5577
