Bothwell Wound Healing Center observes Wound Care Awareness Week June 5-9

Sedalia, Missouri, June 2, 2017Bothwell Wound Healing Center, a member of the Healogics network, is helping raise awareness of chronic wounds during the fourth annual Wound Care Awareness Week June 5-9.

Wound centers across the nation will dedicate the week to educating physicians, patients and the public about the chronic wound epidemic and advanced wound care solutions. An estimated 6.7 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic wounds. Fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy, the incidence of chronic wounds is rising. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and the potential for amputation of the affected limb.

“Our team works extremely hard to heal as many patients as we can by using the most advanced wound care possible,” said Bothwell Wound Healing Center Program Director Katie Case. “Our entire provider and nursing staff have received specialized wound care training. You do not need a referral to make an appointment at the wound center. However, it is best practice to collaborate with your primary care provider to keep them up to speed on your healing progress, so we do communicate with them.”

The Bothwell center recently was recognized as a Robert A Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence from Healogics, one of three wound care centers in Missouri to receive the award. The Center of Excellence Award is given to wound care centers in the Healogics network that have met the highest level of quality standards for a minimum of two consecutive years. Among the criteria are patient satisfaction higher than 92 percent and a wound healing rate of at least 92 percent within 30 days.
