Bothwell Honors Volunteers at Luncheon

Bothwell Regional Health Center honored its volunteers from the American Red Cross, the Bothwell Auxiliary and the Chaplain Corps at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on April 25 at First United Methodist Church’s Celebration Center.

Volunteers were recognized for their hours of service to the hospital. There are more than 200 volunteers at Bothwell Regional Health Center, and in 2018 they donated almost 25,000 hours of service valued at just over $600,000. In addition, four volunteers in the Chaplain Corps donated 750 hours to the hospital.

“We are here to celebrate the important and crucial service you provide to the hospital and the tremendous impact you make on the patients we serve,” said Rose McMullin, interim chief executive officer at Bothwell. “You make an incredible difference to our patients and our community.”

Marian Tilman received the Ida Hoffman Volunteer of the Year Award from the American Red Cross. She volunteered 343 hours at the hospital in 2018. The other nominee for the Ida Hoffman Award was Joe and Joyce Kolsky.

The recipient of the Marian Tempel Volunteer of the Year Award from the Bothwell Auxiliary was Donna Peakes. Peakes volunteered 311 hours at the hospital in 2018. Other nominees for the Marian Tempel Award were Karen Suroff and Sara Lyles.

Nomination criteria for the American Red Cross and the Bothwell Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year awards are based on service, character and dedication. Group members then vote to select the winners.

Some of the leading volunteers in terms of hours donated to the hospital include, from the Red Cross, Carlene Ficken, 929 hours, and Steve Barnes, 846 hours.
