Bothwell Recognized, One of America's Most Wired Hospitals

SEDALIA – Bothwell Regional Health Center has been named one of America’s Top 100 Most Wired Hospitals. This is the fifth time the Sedalia hospital was recognized for the caliber of its electronic medical records systems, and the fourth time it was named to the top 100 list.
Bothwell was recognized in 2010, 2012 and 2013 as one of the Top 100 Most Wired Hospitals in America, and in 2009 was named one of the nation’s 25 Most Wired Hospitals in the category of Small & Rural Hospitals. Bothwell was one of 13 health-care systems recognized in Missouri. The survey is conducted by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
The rankings are the results of a survey and benchmarking study that measures information technology (IT) use among hospitals nationwide. The survey of more than 741 participants, representing more than 2,213 hospitals, examined how organizations are leveraging IT to improve performance for value-based health care in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management, quality and safety, and clinical integration.
“Our team works diligently to ensure our technical infrastructure operates smoothly,” said IT Director Tom Fairfax. “This award is for them and their hard work. As a group, we are dedicated to maintaining systems that make our patients’ lives easier by using technology to protect their identity and safety. That’s what being ‘wired’ is all about.”
Health data security and patient engagement are top priorities for hospitals, and Bothwell is in the forefront with technology that protects patient medical identity and enhances patient safety, such as the electronic medical record (EMR) system and SafeChx finger scanning technology now offered at Bothwell that connects a patient to their medical information. Bothwell also provides MyBothwellHealth, a patient portal that allows patients to access their health information and visit history.
“Over the years, we’ve made significant investments in the technology that hospitals need today to communicate electronically with physicians, patients and other health-care organizations in new health-care delivery system,” said John Dawes, Bothwell president and chief executive officer. “We’ve also invested in the systems needed to keep this information secure. These systems may be difficult for the average person to understand, but bottomline, they help us provide better care and keep patients and their health information safer.”
